 Every Jew has a Hebrew name.

"A good name is better than precious ointment." (Kohelet/ Ecclesiastes 7:1)

The Maharal of Prague comments, "The name indicates the essence.  Whoever  has a "shem tov/ a good name" bears a quality which is essential to that person. A good name is  unlike  wealth, which is a quality outside the essential self. It's  even unlike wisdom;  for although it seems that wisdom is an essential part of one's self, it is not so.    The name is the nature that is separate from all that is physical, coincidental, accidental.

What We Do

Rabbi Dov Laimon is a scribe ("Sofer stam") and teacher living in Jerusalem. He writes all of the Sofer's traditional projects - Mezuzot, Tefillin, Megillot and Sifrei Torah,  but recently has begun custom-writing beautiful Hebrew name plates on calf-skin parchment.  The response  to his  delicate work has been very enthusiastic!
